During the weekend of May 20-22, 2011, Evansville commemorated the sesquicentennial anniversary of the start of the Civil War. The Rally ‘Round the Flag is a home front reenactment. Events included student assemblies; lectures; book studies; demonstrations of recruitment activities, army camp life and training; period musical performances; a parade; the reenactment of a patriotic meeting of citizens; the reenactment of a mustering-in ceremony of new recruits; a tour of local Civil War sites; a “talking spirits” presentation at the cemetery; and a military ball.
